Father Francis Vernon Douglas

Father Francis Vernon Douglas was born in Wellington. After leaving school he worked for a year in the post office. Then he went to Mosgiel where he went and studied priesthood. He went to St Joseph parish in New Plymouth. He spent a lot of time there with young people.


In 1937 he joined the Columbian Fathers because he was interested to becoming a missionary. Then he went the Philippines and arrived in his new parish of Pililla in July. He taught people in his beliefs. He taught heaps of young people and said "They are the future of the church". He organised to repair the the demolished Church.

Late in 1941 the Japanese army came in to Philippines and the country became involved in World War 2. He had a chance to leave but he decided to stay and help.


He got taken away from Japanese soldiers to be interrogated because they thought he was a spy against them. He was arrested by soldiers. They beat him up and tied him to the church pillar and left him for 3 days. He was also given the water torture, which meant he got a large funnel in his mouth, which the soldiers poured water down to make him bloated.


Fr Douglas was last seen been dragged away, into a military truck surrounded by soldiers with fixed bayonets. When the truck returned Fr Francis was missing. His body was never found, but it is believed that he was put to death on 10th of July 1943. He was 33.

I was shaking as they said 3,2,1 JUMP! I jumped. The surroundings flashed past me. I held my breath and shut my eyes. I was dunked like a strawberry, dipped in chocolate. I swung up and down. Then the safety boat came, they took off the harness. I felt a sigh of relief go through me. I had done it I have been bungy jumping.

Jesus Story

One day Jesus went into a city called Bethsaida. People asked Jesus if he could touch the blind man. Jesus took the man out of the city. He spitting on the mans eyes and touched them. The man opened his eyes and he could see. Jesus touched the mans eyes again so that he could see clearly!

Teacher-Jesus is like a teacher because he read people stories to get the point across. We can be like Jesus by teaching people how to do things!

Kind- Jesus is kind because he does miracles. We can be kind like Jesus by helping people when they need help.

E.O.T.C Week

Monday:
On Monday we did Mini Masterchef and a first aid course. For Mini Marsterchef we made crispy apricot balls and smoothies. I did not get to try my smoothie because everyone else drunk it. I liked the first aid course  because I learnt heaps. I got a pen as well.
Tuesday:
We walked to the Rec Centre and half of us went to do rock climbing, the other half of us did team working activities. My group did team building skills first. Then we went rock climbing. I went to the top of the rock climbing wall. I was glad we did rock climbing last or else it would be a long wait.
Wednesday:
We went to Devils Bridge road to go abseiling. It was really hot. I went twice. The first time I went down I was nervous. It was really fun. Then in the afternoon we did clay art. our theme was the wetlands. We were going to go there but it was too hot so we decided that we would do art instead.
Thursday:
We had swimming (survival skills). I could not do it because I had to go to hospital. I was trying to pick the class rat up and he scratched me on the pinky. We had Subway for lunch. Then we walked to Steampunk HQ. We did an art competition. I did not do it because I was really tired. We walked back to school.
